1. Who we are

Box Of Rules is James H. Gordy, trading as a sole trader from Brighton, United Kingdom. "We", "our" and "us" in these terms means Box Of Rules. You can reach us at [email protected] or through the help page on this site.

2. What these terms cover

These terms apply to your Box Of account and to every Box Of Rules site it logs you into: accounts.boxofrules.com, boxofsynths.com, plugins.boxofrules.com and waveformanalyser.com. They cover the plugins, the tokens, the licences and the services you buy or use there. Where a site has a page of its own with more detail (a plugin's licence text, a pricing page), that page adds to these terms and does not replace them.

3. Your account

One person, one account. You must be 16 or over. Keep your login to yourself: what happens on the account is your responsibility until you tell us it has been compromised. Give us a working email address; that is how we reach you about receipts, security and support. We may close an account that is used to attack the sites, to abuse other people, or to get round a licence. You can close your own account at any time from the Account page; it is deleted 30 days later unless you ask for it back in the meantime.

4. Payments

Payments are taken by PayPal. We never see your card details. Prices are shown in pounds sterling unless a page says otherwise, and the price you see at checkout is the price you pay. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added. A receipt is available for every payment on the Payments page, and an invoice with your company details if you have filled them in.

5. Plugins and licences

Buying a plugin buys a licence to use it, not the software itself. A licence is personal, tied to your account, and lets you activate the plugin on the number of machines shown on the Licences page. You can free an activation you no longer use and, where offered, buy extra activation slots. Do not share keys, resell licences or try to defeat activation. We can revoke a licence that is being shared or that was obtained with a charged-back payment. Free plugins are free to use for any music you make, including commercial work, and stay yours to keep.

6. Tokens

Tokens are the unit the hosted tools charge in: a sound design or an edit on Box Of Synths, an analysis or a comparison on the Waveform Analyser. One balance works across the sites. Tokens are bought in packs or granted by a subscription, have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and are not refunded once spent. A pack does not expire. Subscription tokens arrive each period while the subscription runs.

7. Subscriptions

A subscription renews each period through PayPal until you cancel it. Cancel from the site you subscribed on or from PayPal; it then runs to the end of the period you have paid for and stops. No partial-period refunds.

8. Refunds

These are digital goods delivered the moment you pay, so the usual 14-day change-of-mind right does not apply once a licence has been activated or tokens have been spent. If a plugin will not run on your system, tell us within 14 days of buying and we will either fix it or refund you. Unspent token packs bought in the last 14 days are refunded on request. Refunds go back the way you paid.

9. What you put on the sites

Presets you share, wiki edits, comments and support messages are yours; you give us a licence to show them on the sites so they work as intended. Keep it legal and keep it decent. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share, anything that identifies someone else without their say, or anything intended to trick the sites or the people using them. Text you type into the hosted tools is treated as data, not instructions, and is screened for attempts to misuse the models behind them.

10. Availability and changes

The sites are run by one person and hosted on ordinary servers. We aim for them to be up; we cannot promise it. We may change, pause or retire a feature, and we will say so on the site or by email when it affects something you paid for. Plugins you have installed keep working when a hosted feature goes away.

11. Liability

Nothing here limits what cannot be limited by law. Beyond that, our liability to you for anything arising from these sites and services is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for loss of data, profit or business, and the plugins come without any promise that they suit a particular purpose beyond making sound.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU you keep the consumer protections of where you live.

13. Changes to these terms

When we change these terms we update the date at the top and, if the change matters to something you have paid for, we email you. Carrying on using the account after that means the new terms apply.
